Oh man, what a day

HB has broken his leg - it's a nasty fracture, the sprial kind, in two places. We were an hour and a half west of here having an overnight break because LJ couldn't go to school. It worked, until we were walking on slippery tiles and encountered another type of break. Neither of us saw it happen, we assume he twisted and his femur (shin) snapped. He went into shock pretty much straight away. Thankfully I had seen an ambulance station on the way. We stopped there, couldn't raise the ambulance officer but called them on 000 after we decided to keep going and he met us back there after a U turn. He gave him a shot of morphine and splinted the leg, then loaded us up in the ambulance and drove us the remaining 50 minutes to hospital. It only took 2 hours for diagnosis, splinting and discharge. We have to go back there in a fortnight for a full cast.

I'm not looking forward to a good night. His painkillers only last for 4 hours and I can only give them to him every 6.

Am thankful that the ED wasn't busy (we don't have a choice anymore), that one of the nurses goes to Bible study and she was on, and for morphine!

  1. Oh Helen. One of the amazements of my life is that after 12 years of parenting boys, we've only had two fractures, and they were tiny ones on fingers! Poor H. Poor you. I hope you got some sleep in the midst of it all last night.

And why couldn't LJ go to school?

  2. Oh no. That isn't good. Hope your night wasn't too bad and that the painkillers are doing their job. Praying that things go smoothly until the big cast goes on.
